Coolest Wedding

So we were very lucky to get invited with the kids to a wonderful wedding experience.  The Groom is Sikh and the Bride is Chinese, the wedding was a mix of these two cultures and mixed the traditions of them both.  It started on Friday night with the Mendhi and something else I can’t remember the name of.  This was the women’s party and they sang and danced and the did the henna tattooing.  Isla was thrilled to get in on that!

We got to stay at the Delta Bessborough, a beautiful hotel.  There was too much going on before we left and I didn’t pack Adam’s suitcase very well, poor guy!  No pajamas, and I left behind one of his pairs of dress pants, dress shirt and tie.  He had to wear some do overs but he still looked very handsome!

 

Bright and early the next morning (7:30am) we were down in front of the hotel waiting for the groom.  He arrived with a drummer and his entourage of women.  They all had on the most incredible sari’s!

He mounted a horse and rode it up to the doors of the church.  So cool, Adam thought it was awesome that he got to carry a sword, and Isla loved the horse.

The big moment.  Niran was very nervous, well we all were as it would have been a bit awkward if the groom fell off the horse!

With his mom and dad, they came in to the hotel where the bride’s family waited to greet him and there was a ceremony as we went in for breakfast.

It was a beautiful breakfast!

 

Then it was time for the first ceremony.  This was a traditional Sikh ceremony.  We all wore head coverings.

We all sat on the floor and the ceremony all took place around a four cornered structure that the bride and groom walked around.  When they had gone around 4 times they were married.  It was beautiful!  She was beautiful!

Next was the civil ceremony.  The bride with her mom and dad.  Another beautiful outfit!

The food, the dancing, the visiting.  It was so much fun!

Rosetown stop!

So on our way to the wedding in Saskatoon we stopped in to visit my Grandma.  Yes she is still on her own and still looking after herself.  This time though I wondered how long that was going to be possible. 

We took her out for lunch at the Dairy Queen.  It always feels a bit weird but she seems to love to go there and she always has the same thing, a cheeseburger, a cup of coffee and and ice cream cone.

June 16, 2011 Isla’s recital!

My girl back in June finally lost her first tooth!

And here is the Birthday Boy, killing time until it is over.  He finally got a DS that same day for his birthday.  What a great way to spend your birthday!

As soon as we were done the concert off we went.  Headed to Rosetown on our way to Saskatoon, we had a wedding to get to!

Grandma Turns 94

My Grandma turned 94 this summer and we got to join some others in my family for a hamburger cook out.  It was great to see everyone!

It was a hot day in Rosetown Sasktachewan!

So this is 9 out of the twelve that graduated together.  A good looking bunch for sure! 

We had such a good time with everyone!  We camped at Sask Landing in Saskatchewan, swam, at the beach.  The kids rode in the back of the truck to the beach and they all thought that was awesome, at least the city kids did!

A water gun fight broke out!  That was fun.

Here is our little family! 

The organizers brought this bouncy house and the kids had such a ball.  They had schedule for everyone, time for the big girls, the big boys and time for the little ones.  Then no one got hurt, ok, maybe they got hurt a little less, but they were hot and sweaty each time they came out of it!

Isla really likes to have her picture taken and she is kind of beautiful.  Just ask her mom!

Happy Birthday Buddy!

I know my posts are all over the place but I really do want to celebrate some of our milestones over the last 6 months of non-blogging.  Hope you can keep up!

 

Look who turned 8 on June 16th!

We went to the movie theatre and watched Kung Fu Panda 2.  We all had a great time!

Highland in the Heather

So I made it!  Isla and I both preformed  at the end of the year show for our Highland Dance School.

My dad took these pictures before the big show.

Yes, my mom and dad, Ed’s mom and dad, and my sister all came to watch Isla and I!

It felt really good!  I had a fabulous time.

Isla did too!  It amazes me how much she loves to be on stage, dancing.  I love it!

 

But where was her mother?  Why didn’t she pull up her socks?

Oh right, I was panicking about remember all of my steps.  That is a face of concentration!
